In the 1920's women fashion was a lot different they would wear clothes that made them look younger. Women tried to hide their curves and make the look like they had a thin straight figure. Makeup was worn around there eyes to make them look younger and bring out their eyes, also they had very thin eyebrows. Women wore lipstick to make there mouth look narrow, there was a style called the cupids bow lip, invented by Clara Bow. Make-up became very popular and was one of the largest industries in the 1920's. However many women made there own makeup such as eye shadow and mascara. For eye shadow they used soot and for mascara they used petroleum jelly. Tanning became very popular during this decade, as well as new products to prevent sunburns and even out tans. Ankle strapped Cuban heels, they were the most popular heeled shoes in the 1920's. Women accessorized with jewelry, hats and many more things.
They wore simple brimmed hats, however the most popular hat wore by women were cloche hats. They would wear there hats low just above there eyes, later on when brimmed hats weren't as popular feather headbands came into fashion, usually worn for evening events and attire. Women did not show their legs or their bare arms during this time period. However as it got later in the decade the dresses became shorter showing their legs. As 1926 came around the shortest length of a dress was at the knees and the dresses had short sleeves or were sleeveless. Like before the dresses remained loose, baggy and light to maintain a slim straight figure. Women that had larger chests would flatten them to de-emphasize their hips. It was more likely not to wear underwear but when it was worn it came in many different colors, although some women would wear stockings underneath their dress. A lot of the clothing worn in the 1920's was home made usually by a tailor or a dress maker. With the discovery of King Tut's Tomb, Egyptian art became very popular and influenced a lot on fashion in that time era. The Egyptian patterns became popular and snake bracelets worn on the upper arm. As well as the Chinese and Japanese culture influencing fashion with kimono styles and embroidered silks.
